The mainstream says that WiFi, cell towers, microwaves, and electric fields do not impact our health. They are wrong.
There are many studies linking EMFs1 to cancer and neurological disorders.2 Childhood leukemia is strongly associated with residential magnetic fields, the type produced by household wiring, electrical systems, appliances and power lines.34 Then you have the “Tower of Doom”, an apartment building in Bristol England, where both Vodafone and Orange set up cell phone masts on its roof. The effect? 7 residents developed cancer, 5 of the 8 top-floor flats were affected, 3 residents died, and the reported cancer rate on that floor was 20% which is 10× the national average! More recently, even the San Francisco 49ers were investigating EMFs after a viral theory linked the team’s injury streak to an electrical substation bordering its practice facility.5
In 2018, the US government's own $30 million NTP study6 found “clear evidence” that cell phone radiation caused tumors in male rats.7 In the Interphone study, the group with the highest cell phone use, roughly 30 minutes of calls a day over about ten years (nothing compared to even the average use today), had a 40% higher risk of glioma. And the tumors tended to be on the side of the head where they held the phone. A 2020 meta-analysis8 showed that 17 minutes of phone usage a day, over 10 years, is associated with a 60% increase of brain cancer. (Note, the average person today is on his phone for 5 hours a day! Although people don’t use their phones against their heads as much now, which is good).9
Yet, mainstream continues to say that because non-ionizing radiation does not heat tissue, it does not have a health impact. However, health impacts from EMFs are not restricted to your tissue being heated! Studies show that it can increase oxidative stress, DNA damage, have reproductive and developmental effects, and lead to poor sperm quality10, all independent of tissue heating.
In today’s world, our exposure to EMF fields is practically 24/7. It is impossible to know how severe the health impact can be with constant exposure. As of yesterday, RFK Jr., HHS Secretary of the U.S., announced that his department will be conducting an investigation into electromagnetic fields on human health. So hopefully, things will change.
Nevertheless, it’s incumbent upon us to protect ourselves from unnecessary EMF radiation. For more on how to practically mitigate EMF exposure during the day, see:
Even if you don’t take measures during the day, sleep is the one time when everyone can and should reduce their EMF exposure to allow for the body’s repair processes to do their job properly. Sleep quality reduces when we are exposed to RF-EMF like WiFi at night.11 In this post, I cover practical easy steps to reduce EMF exposure while sleeping.
This is Part 3 of my non-toxic bedroom set-up at night. See Parts 1 and 2:
In the below 11 points, I cover how to reduce EMF exposure from your devices and electricals at night. The solutions go beyond putting your phone on “Airplane mode” and include some tips for reducing EMF in baby nurseries as well. (For daytime protection from EMF, see this post).
Unplug your WiFi router before going to bed. Such a simple hack could significantly improve your sleep and reduce your radiation exposure. Literally, just pull out the plug. If for whatever reason, you cannot do this on a particular night, at least cover your router in aluminum foil. You should have your router covered in foil at all times, in fact. It reduced our EMF radiation from the router by 50x without disrupting connection.
